Demons At Play in the Media

The demons are at play and the secular media seems to be their playground. This is something that has been quite apparent to me, but has become more evident as they attempt to reach their vituperative hands to the Vicar of Christ.

Now, I cannot say that people don’t do bad things and that some priests haven’t done what most of us consider the most morally abhorrent of crimes, but such events are not limited to the Catholic Church. Yet, there is a contrast when it comes to media attention and events which can sully the name of the Church. Often times when something comes to light in a public school or an institution where children are effected, it is given a small blurb on the nightly news maybe some local media attention and the case is once again moved to the back of people’s minds. However, when any matter is revealed about the Church, true or not, it is given repeated media exposure and even if the media is found to be wrong, as is the case of the New York Times and those who repeated their story about canonical trial of Fr. Murphy, a retraction is not presented or the public is not made aware of egregious error. Simply put, the media seeks to strike at the Catholic Church because it sells papers, but I believe there is a deeper meaning behind this to be considered.

Satan is a malevolent being, and being such he wishes to destroy that which is good. Over the centuries we have had many attempts to blur the line between divine truth and that which is evil, but the truth has always remained a shining beacon of light and that light emanates from the Church. In the past century and a half, we have had stern warnings against the smoke of Satan, the rise of modernism, relativism, nihilism and socialism; nevertheless, many in society have succumb to these evils including some within the flock. There have been many to attempt to corrupt the church from the inside by coloring the teachings with their own mindset or opinions which were opposed to divine truth, and despite these attacks, the Church has remained that beacon of truth and light, but lately the attacks have been modified and are no longer contented with merely corrupting some aspects of the Church, instead it seems that they are now attempting to destroy the Church by attacking its head and trying to make it seem unholy.

It seems that on most news sites or papers that I open these days, I can find some article with some anti-Catholic bias, or possessing something trying to discredit the Church; however, rarely do you see such writings being applied to other religions, so I have been asked, “Why do I think this is happening?” I think the answer is quite apparent. This is happening because the Catholic Church preaches moral truth and is unwilling to compromise on morality based on social consensus. She is out spoken and will not condone the corruption of society, and though other religions may hold similar moral ideals the Church is usually leading the charge in keeping God’s law. This of course does not mesh well with modern society, as we are now taught to indulge in things and in essence be self-serving in our pursuits. However, the Church in her moral beliefs does tell people “No” you cannot give into your base passions, truth is not subjective, there is a right and wrong, and quite frankly that is not what people want to hear and that is not what Satan wants them to know.

The media, by attacking the Church, has unwittingly played into the hands of the demonic. They are helping to attempt to corrupt minds and shatter faith for the mere purpose of gaining circulation of the publication. Every time something arises, whether it is about finding the tomb of Jesus (which was an utter fraud) or The Da Vinci Code or some vitriol comments about the Roman Catholic Church, it is given extraordinary media attention and facts are left to the gutter as long as people acquire their pecuniary gain. The ramifications upon the Church or even the souls of people are hardly considered and rarely does the person who does the work notice the demons at play in their head, whom they are assisting in corrupting the world a bit more. The game may have changed slightly but the goal is still the same. If you stop the Church, you stop the Truth. If you stop the Truth, you corrupt the world. If you corrupt the world, you can steal souls. Therefore, beware the consequences of your actions and beware the wiles of the devil.
