I'm going silent

Everyone has heard of the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back and that everyone reaches a limit, and consequently, I have in fact reached mine. I have decided it would be better for me not to write in anger or error than to continue to write in my current frame of mind. As has been expressed in many posts and by the name of this site, I support the Traditional Latin Mass and stand against the what I believe forms that undermine the church and attack the laity and promote heresy. Yet, I continue to see a Church that is filled with such horrible things and which relegates defenders of the faith or traditional folk to side. The examples of Fr. Rodriguez and Fr. Guarnizo are just but a few modern examples, but take into consideration examples like the upcoming retreat at John’s Abbey Guesthouse in Collegeville, MN, as shown on   Rorate Caeli   which is promoting idea contrary to denying one's self to get closer to Christ. (Mind you it was the Rule of St. Benedict and that

We Learn by Hearing...So Hear the Word!

Therefore, brethren, stand fast: and hold the traditions, which you have learned, whether by word or by our epistle. (2 Thess. 2:15) So much of what I learn is not by necessarily reading, but by hearing. It is by the preaching, especially by good priests that I am best formed and it is for this reason that I spend large amounts of time listening to recorded lectures and homilies and it is for this reason today that I am writing this entry. I regularly visit a website, one which I found particularly edifying, entitled " Audio Sancto ". It contains homilies spoken by well formed, loyal and orthodox Catholic priests and most any topic that a good Catholic could think of, and listening last night, I was especially moved by a particular homily dealing with the subject of love, entitled " What is ACTUAL Love ". It dealt profoundly with the meaning of love and how one is to love God and neighbor, but even more how love transcends to very notions which are put forwar

Father Guarnizo Defends Himself

It would seem that Fr. Guarnizo has finally made a public statement in defense of himself and the accusations of supposed intimidation against him, and strongly believes that the charges that have been levelled against him are directly related to his denying Holy Communion to Barbara Johnson. Needless to say, and what many of us already know, his version varies quite a bit from the "official" version put forward by the diocese and his version is also more corroborated and believable. Let us pray for this priest, who seems to have done nothing other than to have done his job and protected faith and has essentially been thrown to the wolves. You can read more about his at: Father Guarnizo defends himself, denies archdiocesan explanation for disciplinary action and Father Marcel Guarnizo: 'I Did The Only Thing a Faithful Catholic Priest Could Do' (this article contains the full-text of his letter of response). [Excerpt] .... I understand and agree it is the po

Making Sense of Psalm 149

I don't know about anyone else, but I have often had questions about Psalm 149 and its relation to present day Catholicism and revelation. I have recited it quite frequently when I have done modern Liturgy of Hours, and I finally found a point clarifying and expounding the psalm, so I thought I would share it. Psalms 149:6 Douay Rheims Haydock Commentary 6 The high praise of God shall be in their mouth: and two-edged swords in their hands: Hands. He seems to allude to the regulation of Nehemias, (2 Esd. iv. 17. H.) or to the Machabees, who were priests and soldiers. They shall proclaim God's praises, and defend the nation. In the spiritual sense, Catholics employ the two-edged sword of the Old and New Testament against heretics, and exercise the power of Christ in excommunicating the wicked. S. Jer. --- Our Saviour enables the saints to judge at the last day. Matt. xix. 28. C. --- This chiefly regards such as have left all things, like the apostles, and thos

The Vatican II Hymnal

I like this advertisement for missals for the new order of Mass; in fact, I kind of like these missals from what I see. Watch the video and see why. I think they make some good points regarding the Word of God and how it should be dealt with. I know when the New Order of Mass was released, I took quite seriously how I should dispose of any religious text that I no longer needed and in my opinion, throwing them into the recycling bin just doesn't cut it. I love the fact that the Vatican II Hymnal actually has Mass Propers and many others things http://www.ccwatershed.org/liturgy/daily/ which enrich the Mass. Ultimately, I would say check out their page http://www.ccwatershed.org/vatican/ , and see if this something could possibly be used in your Novus Ordo Parish, especially as they strive to re-introduce more reverent music and chant.

Kudos to Bishop Aquila and Ordering of the Sacraments

I was happy to read on the Catholic News Agency that Bishop Aquila was praised by Pope Benedict XVI for having restored the proper order to the Sacraments of Initiation and now ordering them Baptism, Confirmation, then First Holy Eucharist. This means that the Sacrament of Confirmation is now bestowed upon youths at a younger age and this is something that is in keeping with the Catechism of the Council of Trent : The Proper Age For Confirmation Here it is to be observed, that, after Baptism, the Sacrament of Confirmation may indeed be administered to all; but that, until children shall have attained the use of reason, its administration is inexpedient. If it does not seem well to defer (Confirmation) to the age of twelve, it is most proper to postpone this Sacrament at least to that of seven years. Confirmation has not been instituted as necessary to salvation, but that by virtue thereof we may be found very well armed and prepared when called upon to fight for the faith of Christ

Fr. Guarnizo was Right...She wasn't even Catholic!

A few days ago I had written about Fr. Marcel Guarnizo and how he had been unfairly punished by his diocese for denying Holy Communion to a practicing lesbian. Well, check this out! Thomas Peters uncovered that this woman who has made it her mission to destroy the good name of this priest for being denied the Eucharist is NOT EVEN CATHOLIC! Yes, that is right. She is Buddhist. Get the scope from CatholicVote.org and their story: News Outlets Failed to Reveal Lesbian Denied Communion at Mother’s Funeral … is a Buddhist and Gay Rights Activist. This is messed up beyond words and shows again the sad truth some bishops are too quick to turn against their priests whom they should be protecting.

Fr. Pontifex Speaks the Truth in "We Hold These Truths" - Video

Image
I was reading The Blaze and came across their article Priest‘s New Spoken Word Vid Targets Obama’s Contraceptive Mandate: ‘A Threat to Our Country’s Foundation’ which in my opinion is excellent but what struck me was how Fr. Pontifex's video in response to the HHS mandate produced by Spirit Juice Productions   shows the reality of what is happening in the spoken words style and is a wake up call not just Catholics but to all Americans and that this issue is not merely a religious issue but an issue that strikes at the very heart of the constitutional freedoms and the foundations of the United States.

Diablolical Influence in US

Image
It has often been said that Satan strikes at God by attempting to destroy that which is like Him, humanity. Keeping that in mind the words of Michael Voris ring true, especially as he speaks about diablolical influences on Obama: (Some excerpts from today's Vortex video) So the master plan of the diabolical has been from its very inception .. the overturning of all that is natural. And by natural .. we don’t mean as in fallen nature .. but rather .. that which has been ordained by God .. as in .. according to its nature. .... He [Obama] strikes at the heart of LIFE .. not by denying the RIGHT TO LIFE as much as VALUE OF LIFE. Before someone can be converted into a murderer .. he must be  convinced his victim’s life has little or no inherent value worth preserving. .... Obama’s plan .. as it has always been is the reversal of that which is natural .. the metaphysical beauty of existence .. the glory of the genders .. the free exercise of rights given by God .. which he

The Enemy Within, The Smoke of Satan and Prayer

Image
I have found myself asking questions very recently, not that I have not asked these questions before but they are now more pronounced. After watching Fr. Michael Rodriguez's " The Enemy is Within, The Kiss of Judas Iscariot " , I said to myself can things really be this bad? Have they really gotten to this state? I was aware of the undermining influence and the smoke of Satan which has been permeating but can it be to this extreme? I have been sitting and thinking about this for a few days and have looked at in the light of Fr. Marcel Guarnizo in the Archdiocese Washington D.C. and his being reprimanded  for exercising Canon 915 in situation which would justify its usage [ Articles on the subject : Priest says denial of Communion requires discretion and Exclusive: Inside sources provide new info on priest censure for denying lesbian Communion ], a person who has made their sin manifest and public and has not repented. His actions prevented another grave sin from occu

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Compline

Well...something funny did kind of happen and it is building on my story from yesterday. It was a hard day and I was completely exhausted, but I still wanted to resume trying to pray the Liturgy of Hours. I was getting ready to go to bed and and invited my wife to come pray with me, which she reluctantly agreed to do because I told her it would not be too long, but what she did not count on was me being me. Okay, here is a bit of background. I have been praying the Divine Office, but according the 1960 New Calendar from http://divinumofficium.com/cgi-bin/horas/officium.pl which in my opinion is pretty awesome. I really enjoy praying this form of the hours, as opposed to the modern version, but this is not the funny part. The funny part is that I had been clowning around the with program earlier and had set it to Trident 1910, which is longer than the 1960 version of Compline, so my assurance to my wife that prayer would not be that long was not entirely true and I did not catch my m

Of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Lent

Today has been a rough day. Up until today, I can honestly say that I had rather been enjoying Lent. Since Ash Wednesday, I had been able to keep my resolutions and which have been still been maintained for for the most part, except that I had not been able to do some of the smaller things that I had intended like praying The Liturgy of the Hours, Divine Mercy and I will not be attending Mass this evening, praying Vespers with my parish or attending First Friday Devotion. I have often hinted in the past that I have issues , to put it lightly, and I guess I am writing on my blog right now to ease my disappointment. Today's issue...chronic fatigue syndrome. Yes...I have chronic fatigue syndrome, and some people may be thinking it is make believe but let me assure you that it most certainly is not! And...today is one of those days when it just happened to beat me down. My mind was willing and my body said nope! I still maintained my fasting and abstinence through the day and did my
