Designer Babies and the Destruction of Life.

I checked an old email account last night and to my amazement there read an email entitled Designer Babies in Singapore? (X1) . I opened it and there was a letter informing of publication in The Straits Times. I had happened to miss the particular article and to my disgust it was about getting designer babies. The article, Get a Designer Baby If You Want to , was written by Andy Ho and was published on March 14, 2009 . Mr. Ho, who seems to propose more of a secular humanist perspective, rambles on and on about how good it would feel to choose your own child's traits, and have a child free of deformity; however, he neglects to mention that this process of genetic selection requires the screening and destruction of embryos. Moreover, as one ponders over the issue, this would seem more like a process of eugenics, and society or one's parents would deem whether one is fit to live. The process of genetic selection is a horrible crime against society and against God's plan fo

Pro-Life

The idea of being pro-life should be a concept synonymous with being Catholic, but what does it mean to truly be pro-life? One reasonable assertion could be that a person is anti-abortion, which would in turn be partly correct; however, truly being pro-life means to be a protector of life in all its forms; from its creation to its natural end. In case there were any doubts, abortion is in deed a sin and it violates the 5th commandment. Its very act incurs automatic excommunication. If you don't believe me, you can look at Canon 1398, and is discussed in the Catechism of the Catholic Church 2270 - 2275. However, there are many more acts to be included on this list. Other Acts that are inherently anti-life include: euthanasia, suicide, embryonic stem cell research, and even the death penalty. As I am sure, the death penalty remark has probably struck a note with some people so allow me to elaborate. 56. This is the context in which to place the problem of the death penalty. On

Professing Faith

After Jesus' death, the disciples stayed huddled in a room, behind a locked door out of fear. (John 20) It wasn't until Jesus presented Himself and showed them that He had indeed risen from the dead that their hopes and belief were truly restored. (John 20) We of the present day have the added benefit of reading the accounts of the gospels after the fact. Sadly, there are many today who profess to believe in our Lord, yet keep themselves locked in that upper-room for fear of the world. They profess our Lord readily when in the midst of believers, but deny him when they leave the sanctuary of His holy Church. As Christians, we are reborn in Christ through baptism and must consider that our life is no longer our own. In fact, we should consider ourselves dead to the worldliness. Our way, our path should now be totally that of our Lord Jesus Christ. We should strive to imitate Him in every way. Yet, how many of our brothers and sisters say yes to Christ, but their actions show

The Easter Vigil (RCIA)

The church slowly began to illuminate, as Christ, the light of our lives, spread His flame to each one of our candles and our hearts. It was truly a special night for me. I say this not only because it was the Easter vigil, but because I was to watch the elect whom I had travelled with become full members of the Catholic Church. It was truly awe inspiring to watch Lent come to a close and to have suffered and prayed with Jesus for 40 days, but what was more remarkable was the arduous journey these new initiates had to take. It had truly been a leap of faith. There were so many people all coming from different backgrounds, but they all had one thing in common; they had chosen to accept Christ in their lives and journey to become members of the Catholic Church. I had watched them struggle to understand so many different aspects of the faith, strive forward to learn to pray with confidence and truly become different people. This journey was remarkable, as it taught me more and more about

Sorry About Not Writing

I don't know if anyone truly reads what I write, but for those who do I am sorry for not adding any entries lately. I have been ill, and I will resume posting as soon as I am well enough to do so.

Good, Evil and False Teachers

"Woe to you that call evil good, and good evil: that put darkness for light, and light for darkness: that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter" (Is. 5:20). There has been a steady escalation of people calling good evil and evil good. We have seen the growing trends of abortion on demand throughout the world and many other atrocities, but what has recently caught my attention is the latest news on the euthanasia circuit. The founder of Dignitas, a pro-euthanasia group, not only proposes to kill off those with terminal illnesses, but wishes to extend it reach to the healthly . The idea of "dying with dignity" has been spreading throughout the western world and also has its influence here in Asia. On the surface, "dying with dignity" seems like a noble sentiment; however, we must never forget that we are creations of God. We were formed by Him. One only need open the book of Genesis , or consider the following: " Behold, O Lord, thou hast known

Praying for Others

Days and days pass by and I cannot help but notice how little attention the secular media gives to the persecution of Christians throughout the world. Our brothers and sisters have been attacked in Iraq, India, China, Egypt, and countless other places, yet hardly is word ever mentioned on the mainstream media. Quite honestly, I wouldn't expect it to be, as there is no money in supporting Christian causes and we have to face that most media corporations are businesses. Nevertheless, we must take note that our clergy, laity, religious and churches have been under attack ranging from the Americas to China. My reason in writing this is not to call people to arms, rather it is to call people to put their hands together. I am sure that many of us pray, but I think it is important for us to take that extra step and make sure that we pray for our priest, religious, missionaries, the Roman Catholic Church, the Pope, and all Christians. Of course our daily prayers should include much more, b

A Thought on "Inscrutabili Dei Consilio"

There has undoubtedly been a war waged on behalf of the Church for the salvation of souls. This war has been made all the more evident not by current events, but by the writings of Pope Leo XIII. There is little doubt that evils are running amok in society, and these very evils are shaking the ramparts of our church; however, many of these same evils were made evident back in 1878 in the papal encyclical Inscrutabili Dei Consilio - "On The Evils Affecting Modern Society". The great pope spoke of the "subversion of the primary truth on which [human society is based]". The primary truth being that of God and His church. It is honestly hard to note that this encyclical is over 100 years old, as it reads like a modern piece, and it is ever relevant to recent current events. Pope Leo XIII spoke of the relegation of marriage in civil society from a great sacrament to a mere civil contract; additionally, applying his writings further you can truly see how they mark th
