Demons At Play in the Media

The demons are at play and the secular media seems to be their playground. This is something that has been quite apparent to me, but has become more evident as they attempt to reach their vituperative hands to the Vicar of Christ. Now, I cannot say that people don’t do bad things and that some priests haven’t done what most of us consider the most morally abhorrent of crimes, but such events are not limited to the Catholic Church. Yet, there is a contrast when it comes to media attention and events which can sully the name of the Church. Often times when something comes to light in a public school or an institution where children are effected, it is given a small blurb on the nightly news maybe some local media attention and the case is once again moved to the back of people’s minds. However, when any matter is revealed about the Church, true or not, it is given repeated media exposure and even if the media is found to be wrong, as is the case of the New York Times and those who repe...

Prayer is Amazing

I am amazed at the power of prayer. It is not that I have thought that it doesn’t work, or that my prayers wouldn’t be answered, but I was surprised to see one of my most desired prayers answered so quickly. As some of you may know from reading my blog, I take my responsibilities as a godparent and confirmation sponsor quite seriously, so when I see my godchild or the person whom I’ve sponsored moving away from the Church, it causes me great pain. Sometimes, when people are led astray, I blame myself, or I try (too much by my own strength) to guide them back, but this always gets mixed results. I do recommend them to our Lady and say prayers for them, and I usually see progress in these situations, but what I saw this weekend surprised me. This past weekend, I had the honor of attending an Opus Dei recollection, which I found truly uplifting, and during the recollection something struck me, Mental Prayer. You see, I do pray quite frequently and I do practice mental prayer, bu...

A Thought on the Annunciation

Image
Today is the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and it is remarkable to think of the fear that must have come over Mary’s heart when the angel Gabriel announced that she would be the mother of the Son of God. Nevertheless, she trusted in the Lord and answered “Ecce ancilla Domini. Fiat mihi secundum verbum tuum.” ( Behold the handmaid of the Lord. Be it done unto me according to Thy word .) It is today that we look back at her self-abandonment to divine providence and are lovingly reminded that we should follow her blessed example. In Mary’s day, to be with child and unwed carried serious repercussions, but she trusted in the Lord and trusting in Him means that you give to Him matters which are large and small, temporal and eternal. You rely on Him and never despair. In this age, Mary’s example gives us a path with which to follow Christ, to imitate humility and to trust infinitely in our God. In our lives, we will encounter many things that in their present circumstance...

Act of Reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Image
I think in light of the recent course of events this prayer is truly in order. O Most sweet Jesus, Whose over flowing charity for men is requited by so much forgetfulness, negligence and contempt, behold us prostrate before Your altar, ( if said elsewhere, in your presence ) eager to repair by a special act of homage the cruel indifference and injuries, to which Your loving Heart is everywhere subject. Mindful, alas, that we ourselves have had a share in such great indignities, which we now deplore from the depths of our hearts, we humbly ask Your pardon and declare our readiness to atone by voluntary expiation not only for our own personal offenses, but also for the sins of those, who, straying far from the path of salvation, refuse in their obstinate infidelity  to follow You, their Shepherd and Leader, or, renouncing the vows of their baptism, have cast off the sweet yoke of Your Law. We are now resolved to expiate each and every deplorable outrage committed against...

I Say Excommunicate Them!

Image
Where is the backbone? 94% of Catholic Democrats voted in favour of the healthcare bill , despite it being at odds with their Catholic faith. I think it is far past the time of gentle words which attempt to ease our lost brethren back to the flock and time to cut them off. Some may disagree with me on this contention, but political life and religious life are not separate; in fact, the political life gives one the opportunity to further demonstrate their religious fervour and spread religious truth, but what we have seen is a throng of gutless politicians who have abandoned Catholic moral teaching and voted against the religious guidance of the Catholic Bishops and majority of Catholics in America. Time and time again, these so called ‘catholic’ politicians have voted in favour of expanding abortion, contraception, but this by far is greatest extension of the law in favour of abortion that has been done since Roe v. Wade, and they had a role to play in it. One can argue a...

Nancy the Heretic invokes St. Joseph?

Ah...the heretic speaks and utters more of her blasphemous rhetoric, distorting the patron of the Holy Family. It is utterly contemptible how this woman, who claims to be so well versed in Catholicism, still she opens her mouth so ignorantly; further, she boasts of letters by religious nuns, but the USCCB has already condemned such support of the bill so what is she trying to prove? Is she trying to show that the bill is legitimately Catholic? There is another cause which St. Joseph is invoked for and that is for a happy death, and it would seem that this would be more appropriate in this situation considering the ramifications of this woman's actions (and those like her) and what abortion does; it kills the innocent. Sadly, there is nothing happy about the way many of these preborns die. I say this...if she and the many like her are so adamant about getting the healthcare bill passed there is a simple solution. Drop your support of abortion. It is supposed to be healt...

Thank You for Another Day.

Image
Thank you! I have to say thank you to God because I have gained another day to live. I have gained one more day to work out my salvation and strive to become a saint. I am not a morbid person, nor do I fixate on death, but I walk the line quite often, as I did yesterday, and I think it helps me at times see the shortness of time that we have on earth. Saying that, it also makes me acutely aware of my own short comings, as I am constantly reminded that I never know the hour when He may come. Therefore, I must attempt use each day to its full potential to serve and love Him. I am sitting at this computer right now and have no other thought in my mind than to bless the Lord with all my heart and soul, for he deserves nothing less. He suffered and died a horrible death for me, and continues to bestow me with endless graces like the gift of another day of life which I have not at all merited. I cannot help but keep thinking about the Canticle that is taken from the Book of...

In Vitro? No, Not Licit

Let me begin with the Catechism...  2376 Techniques that entail the dissociation of husband and wife, by the intrusion of a person other than the couple (donation of sperm or ovum, surrogate uterus), are gravely immoral. These techniques (heterologous artificial insemination and fertilization) infringe the child's right to be born of a father and mother known to him and bound to each other by marriage. They betray the spouses' "right to become a father and a mother only through each other."166     2377 Techniques involving only the married couple (homologous artificial insemination and fertilization) are perhaps less reprehensible, yet remain morally unacceptable. They dissociate the sexual act from the procreative act. The act which brings the child into existence is no longer an act by which two persons give themselves to one another, but one that "entrusts the life and identity of the embryo into the power of doctors and biologists and establishes the dominat...

Turning a Blind Eye Doesn't Mean Apathy

Today was a hard day for me, but it wasn't because of my job or anything of that nature; rather, it was from disappointment. Perhaps I am being a bit judgemental, but there are some things that people shouldn't turn their eyes away from. I believe it to be a travesty to see someone being bullied or teased and to sit idly by and let it happen, especially if the person is mentally challenged. My day was tedious, as most days are, but I didn't quite feel the bite until the end of the day. I happened to being walking through the heart of town, and little did I know that my back pack was wide open. Now, I take particular issue with this, as I normally stop people on my way to and from work who have their bags wide open, but as I travelled no one stopped me. I reached City Hall and even went into a supermarket, but still no one uttered a word. It wasn't until I went into the MRT (subway) that I noticed my bag was wide open. I was so disheartened that no one just took a mome...

Condoms made for 12 year olds. Sad day.

Image
How sad are the times when the youth are openly corrupted. It is a travesty that young boys, aged between 12-14, will no longer be led down the road of self-restraint, but will now have a means to give into their base passions. Condoms provide only a means to self-gratification and a path to incomplete love. Sadly, these youth will be given this illusion as a means to an end and will be deluded into thinking that this action is love or will be trapped in the sin of lust. Have people really given up on the young and abandoned them to their lustful desires at their most vulnerable time, when they are at peak of the battle their hormones and are discovering life? Instead of children being taught the dignity and honor of their bodies, they are being taught how to defile it. It is truly a sad day. Read the excerpt from the article printed in  Mail Online. The Use of Time

Our time in this world is brief, but there is so much we can do and offer to Our Lord in our brief existence. Sometimes it may not seem that time passes quickly, especially in our youth, but if we wait for it to become evident, it may well be too late to truly develop the many gifts we have been bestowed with. Time, work, offering all we have to God these should be the focus of our daily lives. Yet, how often do we let our precious moments slip by? How many times have we failed to offer our daily toil properly to Our Lord? How often have we not given ourselves completely to Him? Many times, and we all have been guilty of it at some point or another, we have led separate lives, perhaps acting one way in the holiness of the Church, but a different way in the presence of friends, colleagues, acquaintance for any number of reasons. By acting in such fashions, we, in fact, desecrate ourselves and our offering to God. We are called to holiness and we should strive towards that holiness at ...
