When Catholics Support Evil (Obama)
It has come to be that Obama has won the 2012 Presidential election, and this is a reality that I must deal with, and quite frankly I expected it, though I had hoped to the contrary.
As I sit in front of my computer this evening this evening (early morning in America), there is still something that weighs on my heart and that is the number of Catholic voters who have supported and in fact voted for Obama.
I know there are many reasons why one could try to take a position to support the President, and differences could be cited viewing economic perspectives, healthcare, etc., but these are all secondary considerations to the first right, the right to life, which has been continually suppressed by the current administration as it expands abortion and the contraceptive culture. Also, the furtherance of agendas which undermine family structures and morality. Now it assuredly could not be said that Romney was a champion for the positions I had mentioned; however, when comparing the two candidates, he was surely the lesser of two evils.
In many ways I should not be surprised, especially dealing with a society which continually embraces a liberalized idea of sexuality and promiscuity and Catholics who continually break away from Humanae Vitae and Evangelium Vitae. There is ground for agreement regarding economic reform, but I even wonder how many Catholics have taken the time to read Caritas in Veritate and consider the words that it has:
It is true that we are to be guided by our conscience, but Veritatis Splendor also tells us that we must be aware that our conscience may be erroneous, especially when we break away and divert from the Church's teachings and we must be conscious of such things.
It is truly a sad day when Catholics vote to support a president who has expanded the abortion industry not only within our own borders, but to foreign countries.
Blessed Teresa of Calcutta said: “I feel the greatest destroyer of peace today is 'Abortion', because it is a war against the child... A direct killing of the innocent child, 'Murder' by the mother herself... And if we can accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another? How do we persuade a woman not to have an abortion? As always, we must persuade her with love... And we remind ourselves that love means to be willing to give until it hurts...”
I fear we will reap what we sow and there will be much to pay for by our actions. Discord continues to grow amongst our society and our relationship with others because we culturally we have become immune and apathetic to murder of innocent in the womb. It is just a slippery slope; then is it any wonder that the society continues to become more narcissistic?
...As far as Catholics who supported Obama, I would invite you to truly look at the Church's teachings, not what you think it says, but its teachings in keeping with its tradition and truly see where you stand and if you have in fact cooperated with evil. Consider the sound warning given by "Bishop David Ricken of Green Bay, Wisc., [who] told local Catholics to not be morally complicit in “intrinsically evil” acts and to help protect religious liberty on Election Day" and that they could not be complicit in supporting the set of non-negotiable areas detailed by the Church, especially "abortion, euthanasia, embryonic stem cell research, human cloning, and homosexual “marriage.”" (EWTN)

There is ground for agreement regarding economic reform, but I even wonder how many Catholics have taken the time to read Caritas in Veritate and consider the words that it has:
Morally responsible openness to life represents a rich social and economic resource. Populous nations have been able to emerge from poverty thanks not least to the size of their population and the talents of their people. On the other hand, formerly prosperous nations are presently passing through a phase of uncertainty and in some cases decline, precisely because of their falling birthrates; this has become a crucial problem for highly affluent societies. The decline in births, falling at time beneath the so-called "replacement level", also puts a strain on social welfare systems, increases their costs, eats into savings and hence the financial resources needed for investment, reduces the availability of qualified labourers, and narrows the "brain pool" upon which nations can draw for their needs. Furthermore, smaller and at times miniscule families run the risk of impoverishing social relations, and failing to ensure effective forms of solidarity. These situations are symptomatic of scant confidence in the future and moral weariness. It is thus becoming a social and even economic necessity once more to hold up to future generations the beauty of marriage and the family, and the fact that these institutions correspond to the deepest needs and dignity of the human person. In view of this, States are called to enact policies promoting the centrality and the integrity of the family founded on marriage between a man and a woman, the primary vital cell of society, and to assume responsibility for its economic and fiscal needs, while respecting its essentially relational character. (Pope Benedict XVI, "Caritas In Veritate: Social Encyclical "Charity in Truth"", No. 44)
