Costa Rican President Tells Church to End Celibacy

Ignorance is bliss, or so it is said. Around the world there are people who have the mistaken notion that the Catholic Church is a democracy and that they can weigh in on matters of morals and faith.

As I was doing my reading of world events, I came across an article Costa Rica president: End priests' celibacy vows. In this article, the President of Costa Rica says it’s time for the Roman Catholic Church to stop demanding celibacy from its priests. As I read that, I thought to myself, "Really? Time to end priestly celibacy, and by what modernist delusion did you concoct this wild notion?"

The fact of the matter is this, the Catholic Church is not built upon societal consensus; rather, is governed by God’s moral law, something which many politicians fail to adhere to. Further, the idea of priestly celibacy is known as the Rule of St. Paul, and has been an effective part of Catholic tradition. Honestly, there is really no basis for changing this rule, except to give into the world. However, one should not be surprised about President Arias’ statement, as he also states that “sexual orientation is given by God or by nature”. So, which is it Presidente? Do you believe that it is God or nature? In all truth, what he proposes is another teaching against the Catholic Church. The Catholic position is as follows:
2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered." They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.
2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.
2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.
The ambiguity in his words just shows me one thing and that is he is unsure in his faith. Yet, it astounds me that those who are the most ignorant in matters are the ones who feel most fit to open their mouths and spout the verbal garbage to the masses and attempt to corrupt the flock. In all honesty, President Arias should remember that he is not part of the Magisterium, anointed with Holy Orders, and viewing his standing on morality and his push for civic recognition of same-sex couples, not even on par with Catholic morality, so, in truth, he should leave such matters to the Church and keep silent on issues that he obviously cannot understand. Sadly, this is a man who claims to be Roman Catholic. (Perhaps someone should mail him a copy of the Catechism)

People who speak for worldly acclaim often feel great joy when they receive accolades from people who long to find an excuse to give into their concupiscence; however, I am astounded at preponderance of arrogance in the world. Truth is not subjective; rather, is subject to something greater than ourselves. We may try to delude ourselves and concoct an alternate view of reality, but in the end the result is always the same; one must come face to face with their Creator. When one takes every modernist excuse or rationalization of sin and puts it in front of the Lord, it amounts to nothing. Ignorance is bliss while a person enjoys the fleeting pleasures of the world, but is it worth eternal torment of the soul?

Amazingly, before I wrote this, I was reminded of another situation which also happened in Costa Rica and it it shows the sad state of some Catholic politicians within the governmental ranks. Let us pray for them and for the country, as there will obviously be some hard times ahead.
